As the above participant list indicates, our service providers represent a range of specializations, from adult reference and youth advisory public librarians to academic medical librarians.

Participating libraries staff QandANJ.org -- off public reference desk time -- six hours per week, on average, in three two-hour shifts between 9 AM and 9 PM weekdays and between 10 AM and 3 PM on Saturdays.

Each library also designates a project manager, who is part of QandANJ.org's decision-making team responsible for responding to new and emerging issues.  Library project managers meet quarterly in a central location.  (Meetings inevitably give rise to new group norms, cement best practices, and reinforce our goals and customer-centered values.)  Fortunately, face-to-face meetings are possible in a geographically small state like New Jersey.

In return for participants' investment in staff time, SJRLC pays for all project costs.

Communication is key to successful collaboration in a large distributed environment.  In addition to the Library Project Manager meetings, communication is facilitated by a project web site, our Librarian's Online Manual, and online discussion groups for all QandANJ.org librarians and for project managers only.

QandANJ.org provides its participants a tremendous opportunity for networking, staff development, and professional growth.

If your library is in New Jersey and would like to join the QandANJ.org team, please send an email of inquiry to Beth Cackowski, Project Coordinator at <qandainfo@qandanj.org>.

Q and A NJ is administered by the South Jersey Regional Library Cooperative, a state tax-funded service of the New Jersey Library Network, and supported by Federal Library Services and Technology Act funds administered by the New Jersey State Library.
